Sppech#4 How to say it : Stanford Imprisonment Lab Experiment

I did this speech at AITC Toastmaster club in Amman West Hotel 4th Circle At Amman, Jordan 4/8/2015

Introduction

“All the world’s a stage and all the men and women are merely players ”
William Shakespeare – As you like it play
Do you agree with me that the environment shapes the human behaviors? I used to think that the humans are controlled by their DNA strands until I read about the Stanford lab experiments. Which, aim to find the relation between the insulting and offensive behaviors inside the person and the human inherited traits.

Body

At 1971 at the basement of psychological department at Stanford University was one of the most dangerous play in the current history .The actors of the play was divided into two groups the guards and the prisoners. The actors have no a criminal background, physiological problems and the health disabilities
The simulated prison was like the hell, the prisoners were hearing dresses preventing them from walking normally .Also, each prisoner has a chain on his right ankle to remind them all the time they are powerless creatures. At the first day at 2 AM a sound of whistles incision the calm. The guards awaken th prisoners in a rude way. The rebellion was the event turned everything upside down. The guards break into the prisoners using the fire extinguishers and skin-chilling of prisoners by the stream of carbon dioxide .The guards started to act in vile and violent ways. The guards arrest the presidents of the rebellion and provided better treatment for the prisoners who did not engage in the rebellion with better food and treatment.
Less than 36 hours a prisoner started crying and showed uncontrolled anger and anxiety attacks. The researcher refused to release him. But, after few days he started screaming in a strange way. The researchers refused to release him .Because, he was on the edge of madness .A set of events rang danger , and forced the researchers to stop the experiments .Indeed, the guards started to develop a sadistic behaviors and the prisoners were starting to escape in the depression and anxiety or hostile behaviors .

Conclusion

“The social psychology of the current century revels a major lesson: often it is not so much the kind of person a man is as the kind of situation he finds himself that how he will act.”
Starely Milgram 1974 – American Social psychologist
The Stanford experiment is one of the most important classic psychology problems that illustrates how good people can become agent for the evils , and how normal people can become can develop pathological reactions. Due to, exposure to abnormal pressure.
